Today we had a privilege
to have Kelli Palmer, a 28 year veteran of Canadian Forces, as a guest speaker.
Kelli served with both the
Navy and Air Force across Canada (including in the Arctic) Hawaii, Europe, and
South Central Asia. In 2002 Kelli sailed with
the Navy for 7 months from Victoria, BC, to the Persian Gulf, and in 2010 spent
6 months in Kabul, Afghanistan as an electronics expert.
French Grammar: this week
we started working on Passé Composé (past tense) of the verbs that end in ER.
We
use integrated approach to Grammar that consists of noticing the building blocks
of a tense, becoming aware of how it is used in a text, practising with the teacher
or with a group and finally using the correct structure independently.
Students analyzed a text related to
Social Studies about cod fishing in the Atlantic region. Students looked for
the subject and the verb in Passé Composé. And compiled them into a table
analyzing how the verb changes its form depending on a subject being singular
or plural. Students came up with the rule of putting the verbs ending in ER in Passé Composé

Pendant des années, le Canada et d’autres pays ont trop pêché la morue. Ce poisson a commencé à disparaître.
Les gens ont pensé
que la quantité de morue augmenteraient avec l’arrêt de la pêche.

grand choc aux milliers de personnes qui ont travaillé dans l’industrie de pêche.
Lorsque le gouvernement canadien a décidé d’interdire la
pêche à la morue, cela a forcé plus de 40 000 personnes de la région de l’Atlantique de
perdre leur mode de vie. L’interdiction de pêcher a affecté les gens de
Terre-Neuve le plus durement. Les gens des villages côtiers qui ont travaillé dans
l’industrie de la pêche depuis des générations ont trouvé que leur emploi n’était plus là. Cela
a affecté
négativement beaucoup de familles.
Certaines personnes ont déménagé
dans d’autres villes. D’autres personnes ont quitté la province pour aller vivre dans des
endroits tels que Fort McMurray, où elles ont changé d’industrie. Des gens ont presque entièrement abandonnées plusieurs
petites communautés.
