Teacher’s corner:
Stream of Dreams:
Science: Our class spent the morning working with Stream of Dreams organisation. Students learned about different types of fish in Calgary rivers, fish life cycle, water cycle, what happens to all water that goes down the storm drains in the streets, the importance of keeping rivers clean to ensure the survival of fish in Calgary watershed system.

Creative part: students created a fish of their own: they decided on the pattern for the fish and transferred that pattern onto the wooden template using outdoor paint.



French: Today students started their presentations of Placemat project that they have worked on for the month of September.
Goal 1: to get to know one another better as a class community
Goal 2: to practise our oral French

Le 27 septembre


1. We did Terry Fox run and most of met our goals or did better (Cohen and Ilene)

2. We had Grade 2  reading buddies and we read with them. (Silvia and Shana)

3. Today we are bringing home library books. We chose at least 2 books in French and 1-2 English books (Hugo).

Teacher’s corner:

1. Poems to be finished by Monday.

2. Placemat to finish written part (if not finished in class).

3. Practise oral presentation of  Placemat (Set de table). Presentations start Monday.

2. Today we had gym outside and we played a version of Capture the Flag. (Calla)

3. Today we did science and we talked about electricity in nature and in the human world. (Clark)

Math:
Today we started working on estimation. We looked at the estimation pyramid and practised rounding off 2 and 3-digit numbers with dice game.


Our goal 1: Estimation by first digit
Our goal 2: Rounding off to a given place value (à l’unité près, à la dizaine près, etc)

Science: We talked about electricity produced in nature (electric eels, torpedo fish, fireflies, static electricity, Venus fly trap, mimosa plant ) and electricity made and used by humans.
