Teacher’s
corner:
ELA: We continue working
on poetry and are now incorporating figurative language into it. We learned
about simile and metaphor and how they are different.
Today we started writing Tanka poems
that have to have simile or metaphor or both.
Here is an example of Tanka poem:
Lightning splits the sky
Lightning splits the sky
and
for a moment we see
an
empty playhouse
and
just as suddenly
the
back yard is black again.
Social
Studies: Our focus from now until Christmas will be physical regions of
Canada. Today students were presented with a question why 13 provinces and
territories are divided into 6 geographical regions? Students looked at the map
of the regions and read information in the Social Studies books in order to
come with ideas to answer the question. We came to the conclusion that provinces
and territories are grouped into regions depending on their location, and that
one region is characterized by the same climate, landscape and natural
resources. We started creating a diagram based on that.
