Teacher’s corner:
Math: Our focus continues to be recognizing that 2D
shapes have sides that can be :
-
Vertical
-
Horizontal
-
Parallel
-
Perpendicular
-
Concurrent
We also learnt how to name shapes, what a straight
angle is and how to express symbolically that one side is perpendicular to the
other. Students are working on exercise in math books to practise the concepts.
We use geoplans to build shapes with elastic bands to given parameters.
For
example: Build a shape
that has exactly one horizontal side and two vertical sides or build a hexagon
that has as many straight angles as possible.
Social
Studies: Our project on the natural resources of Canadian
regions is in its final phase.
Today we drew a schedule on the board outlining how
many in-school days we have left before the break and where students need to be
with their work.
For example today was the last day to finish the
introduction according to given example and rubric. Tomorrow students should be
moving to answering questions a and b of the project.
We discussed that if behind the work needs to continue
at home.
All
work is in Google drive, you can ask your child to share with you.
Here
are the questions:
a. How a
particular natural resource is used in a particular region (industries, jobs,
hobbies)?
b. Why
this natural resource is important for the quality of life in that Canadian
region? (industries, jobs, cultural aspect, society)
c. What
are the environmental concerns linked to the extraction and processing of that
natural resource?
d. (bonus
question ) How the perspective of the Indigenous people influenced the way they
used this resource in the past?
Friday is all school pajama day and a story with a different
teacher time. Students chose what story they will be listening to on Friday
morning.
