Math: our Number
talk focus of the week is double and halves of the factors in order to find the
product. For example, in order to find the product of 5 x 16, we think the following: 10 is double of 5 and 8 is half of 16.
Therefore 10 x 8 is the same as 5 x 16.
This is one of the strategies that has as its goal to
create fluid mental reasoning and helps with mental math calculations.
Special
day: Students had a pajama day today and they watched a
movie ‘Middle School’, rated G, as part of their reward for speaking French in
class. We watched first 30 min. of the movie in French and the rest was in
English. Throughout the school year students will have a few special days. As
they have watched a movie today, there will be a different activity next time we
fill up our ‘Speaking French’ jar with marbles.
